The City Gallery is a venue for work that is new, vital, and innovative – with a focus on broadening the Charleston art outlook. The gallery aims to do for fine arts in Charleston what Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto have achieved for performing arts. The gallery is owned by the City of Charleston and operated by the Office of Cultural Affairs.
The programming of the exhibition space will be ever changing, but focuses on providing an outlet for exposing the public to, and educating the public about, artists and art that is not currently part of the overall Charleston art landscape. The gallery permits spontaneous adjustments to exhibitions so a fresh, creative environment is achieved.
